2 Methods we use for Gap filling:

Filling gaps on a floor is an option that many people like since it brings a uniform finish to the floor and helps exclude draughts.

Warning! Wood is a natural material and it can expand and contract. Over time ALL filler can work loose and fall out. Make sure you work with resin filler in a ventilated room.

Method 1 - Filling with Resin (For gaps under 4mm)

The conventional way of gap filling floor boards is to use a resin mixed with the dust that comes off the floor with the 80 grit or finer sanding. This is the least costly method, but also the least effective since it can easily crack and fall out. If the gaps are over 4mm wide

A very simple procedure, simply mix the gap filler resin with fine clean dust and apply it into the gaps with a flat spatula. Usually done after sanding to at least p80 grit.

Method 2 - Solid Wood Strips (Recommended where possible)

For those who really want the best result possible, filling the gaps with wood slivers is the best method in our opinion, these gaps will be a permanent feature and will last the life span of the floor.

We do this using strips of wood, and the strips are cut to a tapered shape then glued and hammered into the gaps before being planed off and sanded smooth.

The results are truly spectacular and worth the small additional cost.

Stain floors and pastel colours specialists

Staining floorboards if done properly can look like an authentic feature. Example; staining pine floorboard with an oak stain will make the pine floorboards look like real oak boards. If you would like to add some colour to your floor. It is recommended to use a water based stain, although there are oil stains available. The stain must be evenly applied with a brush and then removed with a clean dry rag in order to penetrate the wood. We use a number of stains produced by leading brands in the industry and have a wide variety of shades to choose from. Staining requires expertise and may add time to the overall job but it will be well worth it.
